Peter Decherney

 
 

I am a professor of Cinema Studies and English at the University of Pennsylvania, with a secondary appointment in Communication and an affiliation with the Center for Technology, Innovation, and Competition at Penn Law School. My research focuses on media and internet policy, especially government regulation of Hollywood.


My books include Hollywood’s Copyright Wars: from Edison to the Internet and Hollywood and the Culture Elite: How the Movies Became American (both from Columbia UP). My short history of Hollywood is forthcoming from Oxford UP.


I am also the co-editor of the journal Critical Studies in Media Communication and books on Iranian Cinema in a Global Context and The Future of Internet Policy.


I am a contributor to Forbes and maintain a blog here.
